Reformer Pilates
Working against resistance is essential to Pilates exercises, which are designed to train the body’s core. A reformer can extend the benefits of mat work, and offer more resistance than you get with just your body weight.
What is a reformer?
Joseph Pilates designed the reformer when it became apparent that peoples ability to be fully aware of their body's movement and muscle control differed greatly while doing mat exercises. It was designed to deliver a focused and powerful body session for individuals who want to learn how their body moves and improve this, want to gain strength and full range of motion whilst sculpting and toning muscle quickly - but ultimately to help them improve their mat based practice.
The beauty of the reformer is anyone can use it; mechanically the reformer uses springs and pulleys to create resistance and weight to the Pilates repertoire - the session can range from a gentle but always highly effective workout to a more intense, higher reps and challenging programme. All sessions can be adapted up or down, weighted dependent on needs and how your body responds while in session.
“You will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 sessions and have a completely new body in 30 sessions.”
- Joseph Pilates

- Adding resistance and weight to Pilates exercises quickly sees changes in body shape and tone.
- Through precise concentrated movement and body awareness, the reformer will help improve co-ordination and balance; it's the perfect training partner for anyone serious about their sport and want to take themselves to the next level.
- It's gentle and low impact (don’t confuse that with easy!), so if you're concerned about your physical capabilities, don’t be - the versatility of the reformer and specifically designed programme suits all levels.
- It can significantly improve your posture by ironing out imbalances quickly, helping you stand taller and leaner. A one-on-one session focusing on proper alignment can provide you with a baseline you need to make adjustments to posture throughout the day - retrain your body.
- Helps you move more freely and easily due to the reformer taking you through deep stretches with an aim to reach your full range of movement potential whilst integrating spinal alignment and flexibility.
- Supports rehabilitation post injury or surgery with detailed movements performed in a safe way will help you gain strength, posture and movement back into damaged tissue and targets the problems that may occur through compensatory actions caused by weakness from injury or surgery.
